As businesses grow, they reach the point where they are too big to be considered small, yet too small to be thought of as big. This stage of growth is a particularly challenging one where the 90% of businesses trying to make the leap don’t succeed. (Tatum, 2007)  Hence, a conscious decision to grow big or stay small needs to be made and planned carefully.  In the GovCon industry, this inflection occurs as a business is graduating from its small business status (i.e. when revenues exceed the NAICS code or 8(a) graduation occurs). Beginning with the end in mind is critical to successfully navigating through this period. THIS PROGRAM SETS YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS UP FOR MORE SUCCESS!

Your select cohort of 15 non-competing GovCon CEOs and their COO or other C-Suite participants work collaboratively with CEO Guest Speakers who successfully graduated to create your growth and graduation strategy.  CEO's dedicate one morning per month over six months to work "ON" their business and address the biggest challenge and risk of small businesses: stalling on the way to the next levels of growth. The expert facilitation team interacts one-on-one to ensure the lessons learned and best practices from the CEO Guest Speakers are translated into actionable plans.

​YOUR COURSE OF STUDY

 

During each of the six half-day sessions of the program, you will learn about two critical topics that need to be address in your graduation plan. Each session ends with time to work with reknown speakers and GovCon specialists on your specific graduation plan.  Workbooks will provide a series of questions and assessments to help you identify where your business is today as a small business, understand how it needs to evolve to meet the demands of full-and-open competition and what steps you can take to best position your business for the transition.  The program accommodates a maximum of 15 company CEO's and their COO or other C-Suite members, enabling a cohort to develop as you take this journey together.

Whether you graduate or not, your business will be stronger strategically and tactically. In addition, you will make significant connections that can support your organic growth, M&A or exit thinking.

​WHO IS RIGHT FOR THIS PROGRAM?

 

This program was developed and specifically designed for GovCon CEOs and their C-Suite teams one to three years prior to graduation through two years after small business graduation. Each cohort is limited to 15 companies and 30 participants.

A CEO attending with her/his trusted internal advisors such as the CFO or COO will find the program especially productive as the various aspect of the business can be addressed succinctly. Working as a C-Suite team through the program can be especially powerful to get the team thinking strategically and to immediately move into implementation of the graduation or growth plan.

 
EXPERT FACILITATION TEAM

Experts in growth, value creation, operational maturity, leadership development and M&A lead participants through exercises translating theory in real world practice. Heather Newlin serves as the lead facilitator, guiding the program from beginning to end with availablity to address questions throughout the six-month program. The co-facilitators will work with participants during the sessions to translate the theory into robust actionable plans.

Heather Newlin designed the program, while Chair of Newport's GovCon Practice, based upon her experience working with high growth GovCon companies. Ms. Newlin is a 20+ year GovCon General Manager, working across Intel (CIA, DIA, FBI, NGA, NRO, NSA), DOD (Army, Air Force) and Federal (DoS, DHS) agencies at Northrop Grumman and BAE, where she was known for accelerating growth and developing leaders. Heather is currently a COO at middle market GovCon company. She is a highly regarded speaker on making the transition from small to large.

PROGRAM DATES AND FORMAT

The six-month program allows CEO's to invests one morning per month on a Thursday January to June. Each session will be conducted from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm with an option to arrive at 7:30 am for a light breakfast and networking and to stay after for lunch.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the Spring 2020 cohort is open now and is limited to 15 companies. Once the cohort is full, prospective participants are placed on the waitlist for the next cohort. Applications are reviewed to avoid competitors being in the same cohort.
